DineWise Reviews - Catfish Prepared Meal

There are many things I love about the DineWise prepared meal delivery service, and the quality of their food products ranks high with me. 

This is a picture of just one of their many gourmet meals. It is a farm-raised catfish with Red Roasted Potatoes and Seasoned Carrots.

First, let me speak a little on the culinary reputation catfish has in this country. It is often referred to as a "bottom feeder"meaning it eats whatever garbage it can find in the muddy waters it traditionally lives in. The result often produces a flavor that is also described as "muddy," as it is true in nature, that a food source will taste like what it eats.

All this is true, but only when we are speaking about wild catfish. Farm-raised catfish is a totally different story, and in my opinion, a victim of this unfair reputation. Farm-raised catfish grow in exceptionally clean, man-made, fresh water ponds. These ponds are filtered constantly by huge machines that virtually eliminate any possibility of a "muddy" flavor. These catfish are also fed in a similar manner manner that you fish any pet fish you might have. They are strictly top-feeders.

This difference produces a fish that has flaky white meat, that is not over-overpoweringly "fishy" tasting, like you might expect from a bluefish. It is absolutely superb, and a gourmet treat, because the fish is economical and be prepared many ways.

Which brings me to my next point. In this country, fried catfish might be the way it is prepared 90% of the time, and maybe even higher. No doubt, there is not much that beats fresh, farm-raised catfish fried to perfection, but the Chef at DineWise have created another style that is worthy of culinary note.

They serve it blackened, another popular style of cooking, with rubbed spiced that give this entree an amazing "Cajun"dining experience. I applaud them for stepping out the box and creating a prepared meal that rivals any you might have from a restaurant.

The end dining experience is what you might be most interested in, but it is not the whole story. Cooking a prepared meal is the easy part. How does a company deliver this meal frozen to anyone who wants it nationwide, and ensure the dining experience retains high-quality? Just eat a frozen TV dinner, and you can see that is a challenge for anyone.

DineWise packs the catfish entree and side dishes in their own vacuum packaging. As you can see from the picture.

Had a meal like this been delivered in a microwave tray, you would find the different meal components might reheat at different speeds, or the blackened rub could be exposed to the sides.  

By vacuum-packaging it this manner, the flavors not only get absorbed into the catfish, reheating the meal properly becomes very easy and error proof. You can even have the option of reheating this meal in a warm water bath, a technique called sous-vide, and enjoy an amazing dining experience.

I have a passion for prepared gourmet food and I have tried almost all of the companies that specialize in this kind of service online. Moroccan Inspired Chicken by BistroMD

As many of you may know, I write gourmet food reviews specializing in prepared meals that are delivered to your home. This includes diet meal program like BistroMD. I will generally plate them just like you might, to show you how the meal will look on your own plate as you sit down and have it for lunch or dinner. Moroccan Inspired Chicken by BistroMD

I have ordered from BistroMD a few times over the years, and have always found them to be improving the quality of their meals and their service. On this order, I had the pleasure of having the Moroccan Inspired Chicken for lunch one day. Here's why I think it might be one of the best diet meals out there, and a good value at $8.60.

First, I love that it cooks evenly in the microwave tray it comes in. That is something you generally only notice when it doesn't heat evenly. Then, you add another minute to the reheating process, and while what was undercooked is now done, what was don is now overcooked. The tray this meal came with cooked reheated the meal perfectly.

The chicken breast was a larger-then-average size, and it came out of the microwave moist. No one likes dry chicken. All dieters know that chicken will be common on a diet, but the true brilliance of this meal was in the fresh vegetables. Generally, people don't eat enough of them, which can leave people feeling hungry, and more likely to cheat on their diet.

This meal not only had fresh vegetables, they were blended with lentils, a great source of fiber. Instead of eating two or three side vegetables (boring) this blend was as satisfying to eat, as it was healthy. Since I had it for lunch at work, it was the perfect "power lunch" for me. It felt like I was eating a real-sized meal without starving myself, and from the viewpoint of a chef, I thought it was expertly prepared.
